Immigrants Do the Work Americans Won’t.

PLEASE don’t buy into the idea that undocumented workers are taking away jobs from U.S. citizens. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center; while farm workers run the gamut of being U.S. citizens; legal permanent residents, seasonal laborers on special guest worker visas, or undocumented workers — it is estimated that at least 6 out of 10 of our country’s farmworkers are undocumented.

So, next time you hear someone say immigrants are taking jobs from Americans, tell them this: immigrants and only immigrants are filling the need for a low-cost labor force that fills jobs no longer attractive to US citizens due to low pay, limited or no benefits, and/or substandard work conditions.  It’s the migrant farm worker; who labors through the hot fields; picking the blemish-free fruits and vegetables you’ve come to expect at your local Whole Foods Market.

Just so we’re all on the same page — how would you like to work 10 to 12 hours a day picking fruit or vegetables for a minimum hourly wage? Yeah, didn’t think so.
