ICYMI: Zeke Thomas Speaks Out.
DJ Zeke Thomas and I have met a few times and have had wonderful chats in the past, especially when I caught up with him at the Out100 event late last year here in New York City. I wasn’t aware of his own personal history with sexual assault at the time, but his willingness to be fearlessly open about it now is beyond admirable. And it’s true–no one talks about the prevalence of rape among gay men, especially those of color. Because of the ubiquity of hookup apps in our culture, there’s a LOT of shaming and finger-pointing and NOT enough preventing and saving. That has GOT to stop if we’re going to reduce the number of violent incidents among vulnerable adults.
