Enemy Of My Enemy

No Me Digas. Op-Ed: Keith Price

“The enemy of my enemy is my friend.”- Winston Churchill

The Lincoln Project has undoubtedly made a name for themselves as the outraged, traditional Republicans that are not like the dystopian cult Republicans who have overtaken their once beloved party. They have brought shame and dishonor to the entire political process.  Not to mention, their influence on every level has given us a leader who is the object of worldwide ridicule and disrespect, but I digress. According to their site, the Lincoln Project is “holding accountable those who would violate their oaths to the Constitution and would put others before Americans.”

There is a running list of the “former” Republicans and reformed Trump enablers speaking out against this crazy culture that this president has fostered.  As I watch them in all of their punditry, I cannot help but get annoyed. Why?  Because each of them has contributed to the crap that we are dealing with today. Much of it is based on economic disparity and racial division promoted by this party. From Michael Steele, former head of the RNC, to Anthony Scaramucci (who honestly has made more out of 10 days of employment than anyone I know), to Michael Cohen, former Trump fixer attorney and now best-selling author and podcaster.

Their words and video efforts helped President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris move forward with their platform. Still, it was the votes of many abused by the current administration’s policies that put them over the edge.

Although Trump is not conceding, Emily Murphy, Director of the General Services Administration, has begrudgingly signed the paperwork that begins the multi-faceted transition of power.  Of course, on the day of her signing the letter, she was to face the infamous dry erase board of Rep. Katie Porter and answer to her obstruction. This was the motivation needed to jump-start the transition.  Although Effie White has not conceded, the eviction will occur on January 20, 2021, despite the crazy proud patriots and their legal and otherwise efforts.

CNN tries to help us to understand the dilemma that Ms. Murphy is experiencing, but the group, MEIDASTOUCH, has dragged her through the mud. Unlike the Lincoln Project, MeidasTouch was founded by lifelong Democrats.

When we are indeed on the other side of this chaos, the founders of MEIDASTOUCH continue launching their attacks in the name of the Democratic party ideals and principles. But, to what do the folks of the Lincoln Project cling to? Once Trump and some of his cronies are removed or hopefully defanged of some of their power, like Senators Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham for starters, will they continue to combat against the remnants of Trumpism within the Republican Party with many members who seem to violate oaths to the Constitution and put others and themselves before Americans? How soon will they attack the parts of the Democratic changes that conflict with their old Republican ways? Let’s be real with each other.  These guys would not have jumped ship had they not realized the craziness that many of us are enduring is visiting them or soon to visit them. Also, the book sales and TV punditry appearances for these ship jumpers have been quite hefty.

I wonder if the plan ultimately will take all of those disappointed Republicans and create the Lincoln Project Party?  They will get the Mitt Romneys and Susan Collins’ of the crop. Give them a sanctuary to still feel Republican in a changing world, yet be the wind beneath their wings at the same time. They can be the Republicans without all of the genuinely batshit crazy people.  They can hate Trumpism, but they still want power.

Not to seem ungrateful for their efforts, but I have no faith that the truce formed is everlasting. This means that as long as they are “seemingly” on the people’s side, we can give them their props. We keep that side-eye on them because the minute they try and flip the script, we need to be ready to pounce.
