McKrae Game
Oh, Miss Game…
Hallelujah!!! Isn’t it great news that the former self-loathing leader of a religious, gay conversion group has come out as GAY? My answer to that question is a reserved ‘yes’. Before I write one more word, I need to say that I am happy for McKrae Game on coming out, because as all members of the LGBTQ+ community know, it is a tough choice. I will also admit that my happiness for him is completely overshadowed by the fact that he also founded South Carolina’s Hope for Wholeness in 1999, and has apologized for being “a religious zealot that hurt people.” Miss Game founded this organization and mirrored it after his own experiences with the other famous ex-gay group, Exodus. He got married, and systematically for almost 20 years, made it an even more impossible road for many people to find the joys of living an open and OUT life. He took thousands of dollars from desperate people to make sure that other people believed the crap that he peddled. Now he has chosen to denounce it all because it is bunk.
The American Psychiatric Association (APA) made history in 1973, by issuing a resolution stating that homosexuality was not a mental illness or sickness. This declaration helped shift public opinion, marking a major milestone for LGBTQ equality. The resolution stated, “We will no longer insist on a label of sickness for individuals who insist that they are well and demonstrate no generalized impairment in social effectiveness.” The statement continued to say the APA supports “civil rights legislation at local, state, and federal levels that would ensure homosexual citizens the same protections now guaranteed to others.” So for the last 20 years, he systematically damaged young conflicted minds to fight against everything that is natural to them, because of one scripture, Leviticus 18:22, and the desire to control others because you cannot control yourself. It is not the first time that religion and science have had conflict. The King James Version of the scripture translates the verse as: “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is an abomination.” As I have said in my comedy act if Homosexuality was such a hotbed issue and crisis, why is not in the Top 10 Commandments? Perhaps it is on the 3rd tablet that Mel Brooks as Moses so cleverly dropped in History Of The World, Part 1:
Since the STONEWALL RIOTS, we, as members of the LGBTQ+ population are constantly fighting for our rights to live and coexist peacefully against a majority government-backed by whacked-out conservatives and religious weirdos, hell-bent on dragging us all to the dark ages. So to Miss Game, as he finally accepts who he is, I hope that he takes time to send a note and a refund to EACH AND EVERY PERSON that he has harmed along the way to his own personal discovery. I am not one to wish ill towards another person anymore, yet I may have prayed for an occasional accidental misfortune to befall on some of my personal transgressors. I do not do that anymore, because it causes frown lines, and it gives Karma a chance to pay you back for the suggestion. However not to be a fatalist, Mr. Game must be careful as he spreads his dating wings. In the age of the internet, ANYONE can find out his history. I will also bet that he does not even remember each and every one of those poor souls that were harmed by the conversion therapy snake oil he peddled.
So as he swipes left and right on some of those dating apps that he now feels great about using, he needs to be extra cautious because his story is ripe for a Law and Order Special Victim’s Unit episode. Maybe I should call Dick Wolf and get a meeting? In any case, to Miss Game, as an “official” member of the LGBTQ+ population, we welcome you. Please do not expect any parade appearances in your honor anytime soon. You may have been forgiven by some, but many of us do not forget.
