Alex Morse
Running for Congress
Queer people know quite intimately just what it’s like to have their personal lives scrutinized in a way unrivaled by most other populations. Gay men, in particular, are criticized for their sexuality and made to feel bad about living in their skin. Massachusetts congressional candidate Alex Morse knows this better than most right now. The 31-year old Holyoke mayor was at the center of a weeks-long smear campaign allegedly coordinated in conjunction with the state Democratic Party that used antiquated homophobic tropes in order to derail his candidacy. Now that new reporting has uncovered the attack and squashed any idea of impropriety, Mayor Morse is focused on his Sept. 1 primary against long-standing Congressman Richard Neal.
XO chats with Mayor Alex Morse about his well-being over the last few weeks, why he’s best positioned to represent Massachusetts’ 1st congressional district, and the thought of entering Congress an out proud man.
