How Much More Proof Do We Need?
No Me Digas. Op-Ed: Keith Price
So the former president does a super spreader event. And in true Voldemort fashion, he’s threatened to menace this country, especially if he were to be arrested, tried, or jailed, most notably in Washington D.C., New York, or Atlanta. The common thread with those locales is the various, well-earned, criminal charges awaiting him in each of them. In true fashion, the former president continues to show us why he is a threat to all of us. For those who are watching his every move and absorbing his every word, I have only one question for you: How much more proof do you need to see how dangerous and guilty he really is?
In this country, the accused are always given an opportunity to defend themselves. Proof of guilt falls on the prosecution. Then there is the court of public opinion that can change EVERYTHING. As much as I appreciate the information that seems to be coming out about secret meetings, fake electorates, militiamen hiding in plain sight of a riot from the news coverage, I am surprised that we are not seeing the Department of Justice trying more cases. I recognize that there are many i’s to dot and t’s to cross to get true justice in this country, primarily because no one wants to make mistakes. How much more proof does the Department of Justice need to really start making some charges happen?
In addition to the above shenanigans, Republicans are so desperately trying to get away from this whole January 6th Insurrection brouhaha. For all of those Republican senators who chose to let a certain someone’s double impeachment go unpunished, they are probably so scared of the truth being revealed about how many of them might actually be involved. I am looking at you Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz.
For those Republican members of The House, minus Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, that have continued on with the Big Lie charade, they are also getting some heat from their peers. The latest news on Rep. Jim Jordan having a 10 minute conversation with Trump on the morning of January 6th has been released by the investigating committee. He spent many interviews dodging questions about the phone calls and content with Trump on that day. I hope that we get to see him on TV pleading for the Fifth Amendment soon. Also, what happened with Mark Meadows and Steve Bannon?
And just when you think that things cannot get more bizarre, the Republicans have found a way to just go full on Jedi Mind Trick with America. According to the latest from the GOP, they agreed to censure Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger for being on the January 6th committee and refusing to support the Big Lie and its overall agenda. That is a bit of a surprise, because they have both supported damn near everything else up until the Big Lie. Who knew they had a line or conscience?
The party’s best mind trick has gone so far as to say that the January 6th Capitol riot was simply “legitimate political discourse.” Can someone please explain how the story goes from “these folks were tourists, ANTIFA, FBI, etc., ” to “legitimate political discourse” ? When did our political discourse include feces, zip ties, and a gallow? How much more proof do we need to show that they are desperately trying to hide the fact that a sitting president of the United States may have attempted to seize power in the most calculated of ways like some dime store dictator? Only time will tell. The Republican party clearly still has no real platform. With the historical whitewashing, the attack on Critical Race Theory, Don’t Say Gay Bills, Voter Suppression, COVID-19 Denial, etc., how much more proof do we need that those things are their platform?
